If you are trying to decide on whether or not to exhibit at a business expo, you will find all kinds of varying opinions on the importance (or lack there of) in being an exhibitor. Personally, I have found these events to be an invaluable asset in growing my own business. Many of my clients have also seen the positive benefits of attending/ exhibiting at these events. If properly executed, exhibiting at a business expo can boost sales, strengthen marketing initiatives and of course, build your professional network.

Generate Highly Targeted Business/Sales Leads

With the right strategy, a business expo creates an opportunity to drastically expand your sales pipeline and customer base. The people who attend business expos are usually more motivated and interested in the products or services your company offers. I’ve also found that many of the leads that you get at trade shows are often ready to commit to things on the spot, whether it is purchasing products or committing to a follow up meeting.

Develop and Strengthen Your Brand

Branding is a huge part of your businesses future success. You can have the greatest product in the world but if you branding is not strong – especially in industries that depend on trust and reputation, you won’t sell anything. Business Expos are a great place to build and grow your brand. By exhibiting with a booth (or sponsorship), you are creating brand recognition for your business.

If you have some time to walk around (usually during the time when the food comes out), it helps to check out your competition and see what they are doing (or not doing). Look at how your brands differ and look for improvements that can be made in your own brand.

Build Relationships Face-to-Face (Networking)

Lastly, there is networking. Any business owner who exhibits at an expo will tell you that networking is key to having a successful event. Now-a-days business is all about who you know and spending an evening, day, or even weekend in the same room with highly targeted sales leads and competitors in your field, is the perfect place to network. Networking with even one person at an expo can turn into years of future business. Nothing pains me more than seeing an exhibitor that just stands in their booth and does not take the time to network with exhibitors and attendees around them. After all, isn’t that the whole point of going to a business expo?
